Immigration
Immigration is the act of people leaving their home country and
settling in a new and different country. They may leave for a variety of
reasons, but they all are seeking better living conditions in the new country.
From its beginning, the United States has been a nation of immigrants.
Only American Indians can truly call themselves "Native Americans".
Using Photo Story, you will be creating a documentary describing the immigrant
experience following an immigrant family from their native country through the
entry requirements to their settlement in the United States. In your
research, you will need to collect photographs, maps, and other media which will
document the experience. Your notes will allow you to create the captions and
narration for your project. Your documentary will begin with a title frame
that must include title and author. There must be a minimum of 16 frames in your
documentary. You will also need to keep detailed records of
the resources you used to collect your photos, data and other information and
create a Works Cited sheet (or credit page) at the end of your documentary.
There is a list of subtopics you should explore in your research and cover in
the documentary.
Follow the links below for the subtopics you should explore in your research, a list of
online resources, and a link to Noodlebib
when you are ready to cite your sources. There will also be a cart of
library books available for your research. Keep due dates in mind for each
section of this project. Most of your work will be done in class; however,
since the project is on the Internet, you can access it from home on the
Setauket School homepage. Please show this page to your parents and have them
sign to indicate that they are aware of the project, the due dates, and your
need to access the Internet at home.
