January 2009
Dear Parents and Students,
Happy New Year!! On behalf of the entire administration and staff of Ward Melville High School, I wish you a very happy and healthy new year. May the best of 2008 be the worst of 2009!
Our students have been very busy during the Fall Semester. We have had Regional and Semifinalists in the Siemens Competition in Math, Science, & Technology; a Suffolk County Championship for the Girls Swimming and Diving Team; a State Championship for the Field Hockey Team; a Suffolk County Sportsmanship Award for the Boys Volleyball Team; All-Long Island Girls Soccer, Field Hockey, Girls Volleyball and Swimming winners; Gold Medal winners for the Invictus Yearbook from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association; the American Scholastic Press Association Award for Cinnabar; a Davidson Foundation Fellowship winner; winners of the NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing; United States Attorney’s Office Photography Display Presentation; a Stony Brook University Medical Center Excellence in Service Award winner; Global Language competition winners; and, the list goes on. You should all be very proud of what our students have accomplished so far this year – and we are not even at the half-way mark yet!
The new year brings us the last few weeks of the Fall Semester and midterm, final, and Regents Examinations. Please look in the mail for information concerning our January testing schedule and Regents review classes. Student schedules for the Spring Semester will be mailed home around the middle of January, but they are always available on the Portal. Also, please read the flyer that will arrive in the mail concerning the PTSA Senior Prom Fashion Show to be held Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Watermill in Smithtown.
As the new year unfolds we look forward to our students continued successes, concerts, and events.
I hope the new year finds us all healthy!
Sincerely,
Alan L. Baum
